Designing your ribbon heating has never been so easy all your require is a sheet of graph paper, a pencil and a ruler.

All plans should be designed on a 1-50 scale

• Take accurate measurements of your room from skirting board to skirting Board.
• Draw in your measurements onto the graph paper, making sure you include all your fixed furniture (i.e. wc, bath, kitchen, units etc).
• Take a note and mark on the graph paper where the junction box is.
• When designing your heating mats, make sure you use the larger of the mats, to enable maximum floor coverage to ensure a primary heat.
• Design your mats towards the junction box and thermostat, making sure you leave room around the edges of the mats for the cold cables.

Calculating your insulation

When calculating for insulation, make sure you are including the whole floor area, the insulation comes in 5m2, 10m2 and 20m2 rolls. It is imperative to add on 10% for wastage eg.

Room Size L = 3.5m2 x W = 3.4m2 11.9m2 round up to 12m2 + 10% = 13.2 m2 round this up again to 14m2. You will require 15m2.

Therm-a-mat Insulation Board - Stuck down Floors, Ceramics, Stone or Vinyls

When calculating for therm-a-mat insulation make sure you are including the whole floor area, the insulation boards come in 0.72m. It is imperative to add on 10% for wastage eg

Room Size L = 3.5m2 x W = 3.4m2 makes 11.9m2 round this figure up to 12m2 + 10% = 13.2m2 round this figure up again to 14m2 then divide 14m2 by 0.72 = 19.4m2, rounding this figure up will tell you need 20 x Insulation boards.

Calculating 20 kg Flexible Tile Adhesives for Stuck down Floors

Sticking down therm-amat insulation board to the floor requires the use of flexible tile adhesive. To calculate how many bags you need work out the square meterage of your room size and round up (1 x 20kg bag give 6m2 coverage) then divide this by 6 and round up the next whole number.

Calculating Flexible Adhesive for ceramics and stone 1 bag will cover 3m2, round up your square meterage of the room and divide this by 3 and round up to the next whole number.
